Measured, not guessed
Traffic
How loud Meaford's streets are and how many cars are on them, measured from a camera walked through town. Anybody can check the numbers, and anybody can raise what keeps them up at night.
What this is
One walk on one evening, September 22, 2026, from 17:16 to 18:33. It is not a survey of the town.
How loud the street is
The street, with nobody talking
Every second someone was speaking is taken out, which leaves 19 minutes of the street on its own.
-21.6
dBFS, the typical second
-18.8
dBFS, the loudest tenth
-30.3
dBFS, the quietest minute
These numbers are relative to the camera, where 0 is the loudest it can record. Compare one moment of the walk with another. They are not a sound meter reading and cannot be held against a bylaw.

How much they drive
Cars in view
503
vehicles seen across 462 stills
174
stills with at least one vehicle
1.09
vehicles in an average still
One still every ten seconds, both lenses, every car, truck, bus, motorbike and bicycle in view. Parked ones count, so this is how many vehicles are around, not how many drove past. Trafica checked by eye that the quietest minute of the walk had the most cars in view, and all of them were parked.
How fast they drive
Not measured yet. It needs every frame around each car that passes, tracked across them and scaled by the car's length. Until that is done, this page says nothing about speed rather than guess.
Read this before quoting any of it
- Levels are dB relative to full scale, not calibrated sound pressure. Compare within this dataset, not to a sound meter.
- The microphone is on a handheld camera. Seconds where the transcript has someone speaking are flagged and excluded from the street figures, but a voice can still leak into neighbouring seconds.
- One walk, one evening. Not a survey of Meaford traffic.
