One Good Idea

The deal

Your idea gets built and it costs you nothing. You keep all of whatever it earns. There is no cut and no percentage, and there is not going to be one.

There used to be people who came through town selling a bottle that cured everything, and there used to be people who came through and actually put the tent up. This is meant to be the second kind, which is why the awkward parts are on this page rather than hidden below it.

What I do

  • Builds it. The whole thing, working, not a mockup.
  • Puts it online and keeps it running.
  • Wires in a way to take payment, if it is the kind of thing that takes payment.
  • Costs you nothing. No fee, no hours, no invoice, no cut, whether it earns or not.

What you keep

  • The idea. It was yours before and it stays yours.
  • Your name on it, if you want your name on it.
  • Everything it earns. All of it.
  • The decisions. What it does and who it is for stays yours.

Where the catch usually is

There isn’t one. No share, no royalty, no clause that triggers if it does well, nothing that activates above some number. If it earns a thousand dollars that is yours. If it earns a million that is yours too.

This page did carry a ten percent share for a day and it does not any more. Asked about it, the town did not care, and being hung up on the split was getting in the way of people starting.

The honest part

Most ideas make nothing
That is not pessimism, it is the base rate. Most things that get built earn nothing at all, and there is no version of this where that stops being true. Anyone who tells you different is selling you something.
What it earns depends on you, not on the build
This is the part worth reading twice. Getting it built is the small half. Whether anybody uses it comes down to you talking about it, showing it to people, answering them, and doing that again next month when it is boring. Nobody can do that part for you and no amount of good code replaces it.
Effort is the whole variable
Two people can get the same thing built on the same day and one of them has something a year later. The difference is not talent and it is not luck as often as people say. It is who kept going.
Nothing here is a contract
This page is an offer, not an agreement. If something of yours is going to get built, what that means gets written down and both people sign it first. You should read that document properly, and you are entitled to have someone else read it too.

Who this is open to

Everyone. There is no bar to clear to send something in, and nobody gets turned away for how they wrote it or for not knowing the words for things.

Where it gets decided is further along, and it is decided on effort rather than on polish. Half hearted is usually not a character flaw. It is somebody who has been let down before and is not going to be the first one in the room to care. So the invitation stays open either way, and if you want to see what full hearted looks like before you spend any of your own on it, come and look.
